Meet the Team: Laura
Creative Director at HumanX
Name: Laura Marsden-Kish
Title: Creative Director
How long you have been at HumanX: Since June 2024
What’s your background, and what brought you to HumanX?
I’ve spent my whole career in conferences and tradeshows. I started in marketing, went back to school for my design degree, and have been on the creative side ever since. I actually got my start in fashion and jewelry events, which taught me how to craft experiences that feel engaging and full of personality. Moving into tech has been surprisingly fun—it’s given me room to bring whimsy, color, and yes, even florals into a world that’s usually pretty monochrome (florals? for spring? groundbreaking…). At HumanX, we’re intentional about creating events that don’t feel like ‘just another tech conference.’ We mix creativity with substance so the environment feels fun, welcoming, and human, because the experience should inspire just as much as the content.
What are you most excited about for this year’s HumanX event?
I’m really excited to see our stage designs and HumanX Central Lounge come to life this year. Each space has a cool theme, full of color and playful details, making it a place where people want to connect, linger, and be inspired.
What’s been your favorite HumanX moment so far?
My favorite HumanX moment? Meeting our remote team in person. It’s rare for all of us to be in the same space across the U.S. and Europe! We made custom HumanX sneakers for the team, and it was so much fun spotting fellow HumanXers across the show floor.
What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about your job?
People are usually surprised that our in-house creative team is just two people. We handle everything—web design, social and digital content, collateral, branding, and experiential design. From the first concept to when attendees walk into HumanX, we touch every creative detail. What I love most is how our job lets us work and collaborate with every department across the company. It’s fast-paced and challenging, but we keep it fun with lots of laughs, inside jokes, and plenty of caffeine to help us power through!
What’s a skill or lesson you’ve learned while working at HumanX?
One thing I’ve learned at HumanX? AI isn’t scary. It handles the repetitive stuff, freeing me up to focus on the creative work I actually love.
What’s one thing that always makes your day better?
One thing that always makes my day better is our HumanX Slack channel. Between the jokes, memes, dog pics (shoutout #HXdogs), and just staying connected with the team, it’s a little daily boost that never fails to make me smile.
